History and Principle

Since 1970 Coffey & McKenzie, P.A. has provided a wide range of premier legal services such as personal injury, criminal cases (misdemeanors and felonies), domestic matters in the family courts, probate court matters, residential as well as commercial real estate transactions and appeals.

Our mission is to serve our clients in a timely and efficient manner, by conducting a thorough investigation of each case and accumulating all necessary information and evidence available to professionally and adequately represent them. It is of great importance that we be contacted by our clients as soon as an event occurs or an agreement is reached in order for us to gather the evidences of the occurrence or prepare the necessary contracts applicable to the transaction.

Steve Mckenzie /

Full Bio

Steven S. McKenzie was born in Kingstree, South Carolina. He is the son of Richard D. and Barbara R. McKenzie. Steve attended High School in Kingstree and furthered his education at the Citadel, graduating in 1986. After graduating from the Citadel, Steve served his Country and State in the United States Army, United States Army Reserves and South Carolina Army National Guard. Steve is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War and was honorably discharged from the United State Army Ready Reserves in 1996 as a Captain. Steve attended the University of South Carolina School of Law after his military service and graduated in 1994. Admitted to the South Carolina bar in 1994, Steve is admitted to practice in all South Carolina Courts, United States District Court, and Unites States Court of Appeals. Steve has argued many cases before the South Carolina Court of Appeals and the South Carolina Supreme Court. Steve was the lead attorney in reversal of the criminal conviction of George Stinney, Jr. The Stinney case gained national attention because it resulted in the reversal of a guilty conviction of a 14 year old wrongfully accused juvenile 70 years after his conviction for murder.

Steve has extensive experience in South Carolina Courts and Federal Courts. Steve's practice is centers around domestic, criminal and civil litigation.

Joseph K. Coffey was born in 1970 in Manning, SC. He is the son of the Honorable William C. Coffey, Jr. and Elizabeth K. Coffey. Joseph Coffey is married to Katherine S. Coffey, and they have two children: Merrix R. Coffey and Walker K. Coffey.

Mr. Coffey received his B.S. degree from The Citadel in 1992, and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina in 1999. Mr. Coffey was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2000 . Mr. Coffey is an active member of the Manning Rotary Club, Citadel Club of Sumter and Clarendon, Laurence Manning Academy Board, NBSC Advisory Board, Manning United Methodist Church, and serves on the Board of Trustees for Garden City Chapel.

William C. Coffey, Jr received a B.A degree from The Citadel in business administration in 1963 and a J.D. Degree from the University of South Carolina in 1966. He was commissioned in the U.S Army and served two years in Germany in the Army Security Agency. He commenced his practice in Manning in 1968. In the 50 years he has practiced as an Attorney in Manning he severed 13 years as Master-in-Equity and 30 years as City Attorney for the City of Manning. He is admitted to practice in the Courts of South Carolina and the U.S. District Court.

He is a member of the Manning Rotary Club, Manning United Methodist Church and formerly served as a member of the Santee- Lynches Reginal Council of Government Board of Directors and on the Board of the South Carolina Municipal Association.

His practice centers on real estate transactions, estate planning, probate administration, quiet title and partition actions of real estate and commercial transactions.

He is married to Betty King Coffey and they have three children, W.C Coffey III, Elizabeth C. Wallace of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Joseph K. Coffey with whom he practices law. He is a senior member of the first Coffey & McKenzie, P.A.
