Joseph K. Coffey 



Joseph K. Coffey was born in Manning, S.C. and is a lifelong resident. He graduated from Laurence Manning Academy in 1988. He is a 1992 graduate of The Citadel, where he served on the Honor Court and was a member of the Summerall Guards. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1999. He was admitted to the S.C. Bar in 2000. 


His areas of practice include residential and commercial real estate transactions, estate administration and business formations. In addition, he is the Clarendon County Master-in-Equity. 


He is a member of the Manning United Methodist Church, where he has served on various. committees and in various roles. He presently serves on the Advisory Board of Synovus in Manning, the Advisory Board of The Citadel's School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Laurence Manning Academy Board of Trustees. 


He is married to Katherine S. Coffey, and they have two children, Merrix Ruth Coffey and Walker King Coffey. 


Steven S. McKenzie


Steven S. McKenzie was born in Kingstree, South Carolina. He is the son of Richard D. and Barbara R. McKenzie. Steve attended High School in Kingstree and furthered his education at the Citadel, graduating in 1986. After graduating from the Citadel, Steve served his Country and State in the United States Army, United States Army Reserves, and South Carolina Army National Guard. Steve is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War and was honorably discharged from the United States Army Ready Reserves in 1996 as a Captain. Steve attended the University Of South Carolina School Of Law after his military service and graduated in 1994. Admitted to the South Carolina bar in 1994, Steve is admitted to practice in all South Carolina Courts, United States District Court, and United States Court of Appeals. Steve has argued many cases before the South Carolina Court of Appeals and the South Carolina Supreme Court. Steve was the lead attorney in a reversal of the criminal conviction of George Stinney, Jr. The Stinney case gained national attention because it resulted in the reversal of a guilty conviction of a 14-year-old wrongfully accused juvenile 70 years after his murder conviction.

Steve has extensive experience in South Carolina Courts and Federal Courts. Steve's practice is centered on domestic, criminal, and civil litigation.


Alexander C. Craven



Alex was born in Charleston, South Carolina, a state where his family have been natives for generations. He grew up in Clarendon County, South Carolina, where his parents supported the community as a small business owner of Stokes-Craven Automotive for over twenty years. After graduating high school with honors at Laurence Manning Academy, Alex attended the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Throughout his four years of undergraduate studies, he developed a passion for the law as he served as a Page in the South Carolina Senate and began working as a summer law clerk at Coffey & McKenzie, P.A.


Thereafter, Alex attended the Charleston School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor in only two and half years while simultaneously being enrolled at the College of Charleston, where he earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration. He was a member of Phi Delta Phi, an international legal honor society, and Phi Alpha Alpha, a national honor society for public administration, at each institution, respectively. Following passing the bar examination on the first attempt, Alex served as a law clerk to the Honorable R. Ferrell Cothran, Jr. of the Third Judicial Circuit of South Carolina. After the clerkship, he began practicing law part-time with Knight Law Firm in Summerville, South Carolina while also serving under Third Circuit Solicitor Ernest A. “Chip” Finney, III as a part-time assistant solicitor in Clarendon County where he prosecuted cases ranging from juvenile status offenses to murder.


In 2023, Alex joined Coffey & McKenzie, P.A. as a full-time associate where he maintains a general law practice but primarily focuses on personal injury, criminal defense, and family law. He is admitted to practice in the State of South Carolina, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, and the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Alex has a strong commitment to volunteering and public service. He has previously served as a junior counselor at Palmetto Boys State, a town planning commissioner, and Vice-Chairman of the Clarendon County School District Board of Trustees. He currently serves as a part-time Magistrate Judge in Clarendon County and is a member of Summerton Baptist Church, Summerville Masonic Lodge No. 234, and Omar Shriners, where he has served as Temple Attorney since 2021.


In his spare time, Alex enjoys reading South Carolina history, hunting, and being anywhere on a boat.

Billy is married to Betty King Coffey, and they have three children: W.C. Coffey III, Elizabeth C. Wallace of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Joseph K. Coffey, with whom he practices law. He is a senior member of the first Coffey & McKenzie, P.A.

After earning his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina in 1966 and serving his country in the U.S. Army, Mr. Coffey returned to Manning in 1968 to begin a legal career that has spanned decades. As a former Master-in-Equity for 13 years and City Attorney for 30 years, his contributions to the legal field and the Manning community are unparalleled. Through roles with the Manning Rotary Club, the South Carolina Municipal Association, and other civic organizations, he has demonstrated his belief that being an attorney is a profession with a calling to serve.
